3 common causes of car crashes

Distracted/reckless driving

This is a broad category and it covers many different causes. Common distractions include texting, eating, futzing with monitors, and even talking too much. Reckless driving can be a result of distracted driving. Swerving in and out of lanes is terribly unsafe and can lead to collisions. Drunk driving is included in this category and it is the most avoidable cause of car accidents. After a night of drinking, just call an Uber, it isn’t that hard. Drunk driving takes thousands of lives every year, many of which were innocent bystanders struck by a drunk motorist. Don’t ever drink and drive.

Speeding

Speeding counts as reckless driving, but it’s a special kind that deserves attention because a large percentage of vehicle accidents are caused by high speeds. When you go too fast, you are reducing your reaction time. Don’t go more than 5 or 6 mph above the posted speed limit and you will have more time to react to the unexpected.

Inclement weather

Heavy rain, snow, or sleet makes driving very difficult. If you get caught in bad weather, it’s best to pull over and let it pass before continuing, but that might not always be an option. Take it extra slow and turn on your hazards when visibility gets low.
